When you have set up your scene and ready to light it.  Think as a photographer would do to set up a studio. What you need to light up the object for of interest is a Key light for shadows, fill light for details lost in the shadow and a back light to give definition to the object.  The key light is above the object and is points down towards the object and when you create the desired shadow effect it is time to move on to the back light. Usually the key light has the highest intensity. Working on art.

I have never sold gallery art.  But I have worked in print shops before, they are like a butcher shop where you grind out images.  I am not down on the design and printing industry many people like the fast pace, the tension and putting out the images on time.  It is the nature of the beast, and competition drives it.
